Cowboys analyst on what Colorado football HC Deion Sanders doesn't understand about Dallas's puzzling offseason
Colorado football head coach Deion Sanders called out the Dallas Cowboys for not re-signing cornerback Stephon Gilmore in a recent Instagram post, stating, "I got a Special visit today from a Future HOF’er and his sons, Stephon Gilmore!!!! Dallas Stop Playing" on his Instagram page -- but as Cowboys Country's Tony Fisher explains, Coach Prime doesn't understand that Jerry Jones's franchise is in the midst of a rebuild.
"Gilmore who is a Super Bowl champ', in his first year with the 'Boys, got a now career-high two interceptions and 68 tackles," Fisher prefaced before saying, "Some would say he should be re-signed as one of the Cowboy's veteran play-makers.
"What Deion may not know? The Cowboys are seemingly in 'Blow It Up' mode. They are not trying very hard to sign anybody ... especially not guys in their 30's and especially not anybody who wants more than a cheap one-year deal."
Cowboys rebuild could lead to drafting Colorado football QB Shedeur Sanders in 2025
A possibility resulting from Dallas's seemingly puzzling offseason strategy could be the Cowboys being in a position to draft Coach Prime's youngest son, Buffs quarterback Shedeur Sanders, during the 2025 NFL draft.
Dallas is on a short list of programs Coach Prime would okay his sons Shedeur and Shilo and Travis Hunter playing for, and Dak Prescott's 2025 free agency could have the Cowboys thinking about who the future of the QB position could be in the DFW; because Trey Lance is not likely to be it based on what we've seen from the North Dakota State product.
Having played at Trinity Leadership Public School in Cedar Hill, Shedeur would literally be right at home in Dallas. And who knows? The Cowboys could use one of their late-round picks to bring Shilo to their secondary as well.
