Athlon Sports, the same outlet that published a bombshell report about the Colorado football locker room and what Deion Sanders allows to go on in it, connected the dots between Coach Prime and the Dallas Cowboys in an attempt to convince the public that the union is possible.

It's not, though. Not because Sanders pledged a long-term commitment to keep "Prime Time" in Boulder, or Coach Prime's constant claims that he's a father and not a baby daddy and won't follow Shedeur and Shilo to the NFL. No.

It's because Sanders sounds stressed about what the NFL could entail.

“I don’t have any desire or ambition to coach in the NFL," Sanders said in June 2023 (h/t Buffaloes Wire). "I have a problem with men getting their checks and not doing their jobs. I would be too tough as a coach in the NFL because I still have those old-school attributes.”

Deion Sanders more likely to retire than leave Colorado football for another job

A couple of ground rules need to be established when discussing the University of Colorado Boulder's future post-"Prime Time." First, Sanders won't find another Power 4 program willing to give him the level of autonomy that he has at CU. Second, the NFL probably is all but certainly off the table.

With that in mind, understand that all of the locker room drama the program may or may not have experienced will turn certain types of prospects away. If it's still going on and contributes to negative locker room camaraderie, 2024 could be another rough season. There's no guarantee Colorado gets better and becomes a great team in the Big 12 in the coming years.

Trying to build the Buffs in his own image could wear Sanders down eventually. He's not healthy like he used to be, having had several surgeries and amputations in recent seasons.

Coach Prime would retire before quitting on Colorado before the end of his contract. Don't think retirement won't be on the table in the coming years if things don't improve.
