Deion Sanders still hasn’t settled on a starting quarterback at Colorado, and RJ Young sees a troubling pattern.
On Adapt & Respond, Young discussed Julian Lewis being pulled during Colorado’s loss to Baylor and the possibility that Isaac Wilson could start against Texas Tech. Sanders had said he would make the decision after watching practice, but Young argued the bigger issue is how Colorado reached this point.
“I do think Prime has a problem identifying a quarterback,” Young said. “This is the second year in a row that they got that wrong.”
Young pointed to last season’s 3–9 record and Colorado’s changes at quarterback as a warning. He questioned whether moving to Wilson would give the Buffaloes the stability they need, describing Lewis as struggling in Brennan Marion’s new offense and saying Wilson’s arrival was unlikely to instill confidence.
The broader comparison Young made was pointed: “Texas Tech is who Colorado thought it was going to be.” He contrasted Colorado’s current uncertainty with the success Texas Tech has had, arguing that the Red Raiders are now achieving the kind of results many expected from Sanders’ program.
Young Pushes Back on Social Media Speculation
Young was critical of the quarterback situation but defended Sanders against a separate claim circulating online. A post calling Lewis “trash” had been liked by Sanders’ account, prompting speculation that Sanders himself had endorsed it.
Young said Sanders is not the only person who manages the account, adding that his son Bucky also does so. He argued that people shouldn’t assume Sanders personally liked the post or draw conclusions about his relationship with Lewis from the account activity.
It should be noted that after a Colorado fan pointed out the social‑media like on their X account, they later updated the post to show that the like had been removed. That said, for those who have been critical of the many off‑the‑field distractions that seem to constantly surround the Buffaloes program, this is just another situation that was easily avoidable. Whether the post was liked by Coach Prime himself or by a family or staff member really doesn’t make a difference.
The game is set to kickoff this Saturday when No. 12 Texas Tech (4-0, 1-0 Big 12) visits Colorado (2-2, 0-1 Big 12) at 5:30 p.m. MT. It will air on FOX, giving the Buffaloes a chance to answer Young’s questions on the field against one of the conference’s top teams.
