This Deion Sanders social media post should have ended speculation of him resigning

Rumors have swirled all weekend of Deion Sanders announcing his resignation or taking a leave of absence from Colorado during a press conference on Monday featuring his medical team. But one recent social media post says otherwise.

Rumors have swirled and speculation has been aplenty about Deion Sanders walking away from Colorado. Those rumors have been prevalent most of the summer due to the illness that has kept him away from Boulder and on his ranch in Texas. It got much worse over the weekend after it was announced on Friday that Sanders would be holding a press conference on Monday at 1 pm ET with members of his medical team.

The press conference is slated to discuss "team and general updates." Most figure the general updates to include an update on his health and what has ailed him all summer, though it isn't explicitly stated. The inclusion of his medical team at the press conference implies it, however.

Fans and media have speculated all weekend that Sanders could be using the press conference to announce he's resigning, or potentially taking a season-long sabbatical from his post in order to focus on his health. Rumors of Sanders leaving Colorado have been prevalent since he took the job, with many expecting it to happen as soon as Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter departed for the NFL.

But Coach Prime's health issues are very real. He'll discuss what the issues have been this time, but he has dealt with blood clots for several years now. He had surgery a year ago, and a couple of years prior to that, he had to have two toes removed. None of that was for show.

Concerns over Coach Prime resigning are likely much ado about nothing

I don't have any inside information on what Sanders will talk about at his press conference. It seems unlikely that he's resigning, however, considering several factors. One of which is that all the rumors have come from outside of Boulder, with none being generated by the beat reporters who cover the team every single day.

There's also Sanders attending Big 12 Media Days a few weeks ago. It's unlikely that if he was planning his exit that he would have bothered. He probably also wouldn't bother traveling to Colorado to make this announcement. And, there are also words from Coach Prime himself.

On Friday, prior to the announcement of his Monday press conference, Sanders sent out the below message on his X account:

This was Coach Prime announcing that he was back to work. He arrived in Boulder on Friday to begin preparation for the 2025 football season with fall camp starting a few days later.

There's also the language in the press release itself announcing the Monday PC. The release stated that Sanders will hold his "first" press conference of fall camp. His first. Not his last. Not a press conference. His first. That wordage signals further media availability to come.

Colorado fans have a right to be uneasy. What has been going on with Sanders is concerning. His long-term health is paramount to the continued success of the football program. But as for today's press conference, it's likely to be much ado about nothing.
