The moment a name is called at the NFL Draft, the cameras don’t just find the player.
They find everyone at the table. And just about anybody nearby in the green room, too.
Leanna, the wife of Colorado legend Travis Hunter, summed that up on a video shared on social media, full of advice aimed at wives and girlfriends heading into draft night.
“Don’t get in the camera too much,” she said. “But also don’t avoid the cameras.”
That push and pull, as she laid it out, doesn’t really go away.
“Don’t stand up too fast because then you’re trying to make it about you,” she continued. “But also don’t stand up too slow because then you’re bored and you don’t want to be there.”
It kept going. “Don’t hug him before his mom hugs him,” she said. “But also hug him before his mom because then it’s going to look like someone’s trying to tell you to go hug him.”
The same back-and-forth showed up in every reaction.
“Don’t cry because if you cry then you’re dramatic,” she said. “But also if you don’t cry then you don’t care about him.”
Even something as simple as what to wear or how to react isn’t safe from being picked apart.
“Don’t wear heels,” she said, before flipping it again. “But also if you don’t wear heels then you’re classless.”
By that point, the message was clear. “Don’t smile too much,” she added. “But also, don’t forget to smile.”
And then the conclusion.
“So actually,” she said, “just don’t go.”
It lands like a joke, but there is something real underneath it. Draft night has turned into a made-for-TV moment where every reaction from wives and girlfriends gets picked up and picked apart almost instantly.
For the players, it is everything they have worked for. For everyone at the table, it can feel like there is no right way to handle it.
